Welcome to CCQ official website
Welcome to the Carnival Calabar Queen Website! It’s about that time of the year again, when the lights are lit and the streets explode into a multitude of festivities, party revelers troop down the streets in their outstanding costumes, and the air is heavy with the excitement and gaiety of it all……. Its Carnival time!!
The Calabar Carnival is a yearly event that holds in December and is rightly dubbed ‘Africa’s biggest street party’, of which our very own Carnival Calabar Queen is an integral component.
The Carnival Queen is not just a beauty queen; she is an Ambassador for tourism in Cross River State and a role model for youths through the MACA initiative. MACA is an acronym for ‘ Mothers against child abandonment”. This initiative was set up by Her Excellency, The Wife of the Governor, Obioma Ledal Liyel-Imoke to reduce drastically the alarming rate of abandoned babies in the state.
Abandoned babies and sometimes their teenage mothers are cared for in a separate shelter called The Refuge. Proceeds from ticket and table sales are used to fund The Refuge.
Well, having said that, we hope you have an exciting tour of our website. View our photo gallery, and let us take you through the various exciting facets of the pageant, the queen’s visits, Cross River State’s captivating tourist sites, and culture at its best. Also included is our very first MACA Brochure, which will tell you everything you need to know about the MACA initiative. We have included a link to Facebook so you can invite your friends to view the site and be part of the Fun!
